Dear members,
Welcome to Trinity term at the Oxford Law Society!
Once again, the Oxford Law Society promises to bring you a term full of outstanding social events, presentations and speakers. Whether you’re celebrating freedom from Mods, looking for a head start in upcoming training contract interviews or simply fancy some Pimms in the sunshine, the Oxford Law Society has something for you!
The Committee has been working hard this term to organise some fantastic social events. We start off the term with the traditional President’s Drinks on Monday of first week to be held at the University Exam Schools. Tuesday of third week brings the decadent Champagne and Chocolates event at Camera followed by a cocktail evening at The Grand Café in early fourth week. Afternoon Tea at the Randolph Hotel on Friday of fifth week will be sure to banish any fifth week blues and Law Soc living legend Eric ‘The Vine King’ will be hosting the Wine Tasting evening on Wednesday of sixth week. We are extremely excited to announce that the illustrious Law Society Ball will be held this term in seventh week, in the magical setting of the Roman Baths. The term’s social calendar promises to come to a fantastic end with the Summer Garden Party in the beautiful gardens of St Benet’s Hall on Tuesday of eighth week. The Garden Party will also incorporate a charity fundraiser for the truly deserving Pro Bono Charity, ‘LawWorks’.
We also have some excellent presentations and speaker events lined up for you.
Julian Young, who made international headlines as the solicitor advocate representing Sean Hogson in the trial which overturned his murder conviction after twenty seven years in prison, is coming to speak to the society in second week. We are also extremely fortunate to have Lord Collins, English judge and Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, coming to speak to the society in fifth week.
This term’s series of presentations promises to be invaluable for members looking to find out more about a career in the law or preparing for upcoming training contract interviews. We have a range of presentations this term, covering issues such as commercial awareness, the next step for first year lawyers and how to write the perfect application.
There will also be a series of excellent mooting events throughout the term which we are sure many of you will be keen to get involved with! Also, the termly magazine ‘Verdict’ will be delivered towards the end of term which promises to be full of fascinating articles for you to enjoy.
I hope that you all have an excellent Trinity term and I look forward to seeing you at our events!
Yours,
Amy Crocker-White
